In Joypurhat and Kalai upazilas, the sale of potatoes at the rate of Tk 50 per kg has started in the fair price market 'Student-Krishak Corner' run by the students of anti-apartheid student movement.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rashedul Islam officially inaugurated the program of selling potatoes at the rate of Tk 50 per kg at Martyr Doctor Abul Kashem Maidan in Joypurhat city on Tuesday afternoon, organized by the district administration and with the support of the Special Task Force.
At that time, district anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Hasibul Haque Sanjid, Mubasshir Ali, Niamur Rahman Nibir and Hossain Ahmed Tanveer were present.
At present, potatoes are being sold at 70 to 80 taka per kg in the bazaars of various areas of Joypurhat. In such a situation, people of low and low income are very happy as potatoes are sold at a low price of Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg in this student-farmer corner of Jaipurhat city.
Meanwhile, at around 11 o'clock on Tuesday, Kalai upazila administration and anti-discrimination student movement organized the sale of potatoes at a fair price in front of Muktijoddha memorial under the banner of student farmers' corner.
Kalai upazila executive officer Shamima Akhter Jahan inaugurated the sale of potatoes. Upazila Agriculture Officer Arun Chandra Roy, Upazila Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Coordinator Md. Tanim Sarkar, Meftahur Rahman Mahir and many others.
In the fair price market, a buyer can purchase a maximum of 5 kg of potatoes at the fair price.
Common buyers are happy to buy potatoes at a comparatively lower price than the market price. Shafiqul, Ashiq, Nushraf, Rana, who came to buy potatoes from Kalai municipality said that they are happy that they are selling 70 rupees per kg of potatoes for 50 rupees in the market of rising commodity prices. He thanked the administration and those associated with it for selling potatoes at a lower price than the market.
Kalai Upazila Executive Officer Shamima Akhter Jahan said that Kalai Upazila administration has launched a fair price market to ensure a fair price market. Here potatoes will be sold to buyers at the rate of Tk 50 per kg.
