9 lakh 21 thousand 500 Saudi Riyals (Tk 2 crore 93 lakh 86 thousand in Bangladeshi currency) have been recovered by searching a passenger's bag at Chittagong's Shah Amanat International Airport. The passenger's name is Dulal Jamaddar.
The passenger was reportedly handed over to airport customs after being detained on Tuesday morning.
Dulal Jamaddar is the son of Mansoor Ali Jamaddar of Shibchar area of Madaripur. He was supposed to go to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer of Shah Amanat International Airport, said that due to the suspicious movement of a passenger on the connecting flight of US-Bangla Airlines to Dubai via Dhaka-Chittagong, the flight crew offloaded him at Chittagong. Later, the US Bengali authorities contacted him with his hand luggage at the security branch.
He said that security officer on duty Badshah Faisal and his team initially interrogated him and at one stage he admitted that he had foreign currency. Later, airport security wing (AVSEC), air force task force, customs and intelligence agencies were informed. The passenger was handed over to airport customs in the presence of everyone. The recovered Saudi Riyal is equal to 2 crore 93 lakh 86 thousand Bangladeshi taka.
The concerned authorities said that legal action is being taken against Dulal Jamaddar who was detained in this incident.
