18 people including Mahbubul are in jail for 'non-violent popular uprising' in Bangladesh

Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury, one of the organizers of the organization named 'Non-violent Ganoabhyutthan Bangladesh', has been sent to jail on the charge of creating chaos in the capital's Shahbagh by offering a loan of lakhs without interest.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam gave this order on Tuesday.

Other accused who went to jail are- Advocate Ziaur Rahman, Syed Istiaq Ahmed, Mehdi Hasan, Rahat Imam Noman, Masud, Ibrahim, Alek Faraji, Saiful Islam, Abu Bakkar, Rinku, Nizam Uddin, Syed Haroon Or Rashid, Afzal Mandal, Abdur Rahim, Noornavi, Shahid and Kohinoor Akhtar

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Mahfazur Rahman of Shahbag Police Station, presented the accused in the court and applied for detention in jail. On the other hand, the lawyer applied for bail on behalf of the accused. After the hearing, the court sent them to jail and fixed Thursday for the bail hearing.


Apart from this, ABM Mustafa Amin, the convener of the non-violent popular uprising in Bangladesh, fell ill due to old age after his arrest. The investigating officer informed the court that he is being treated at Square Hospital. He applied for issuance of custody warrant to produce him in court. Later, the court ordered him to appear in court subject to his health.

Earlier, on Monday (November 25) morning, the organization called non-violent public uprising tried to gather lakhs of people in Shahbagh of the capital.

Later, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Harun Or Rashid filed a case as the plaintiff. In the case, 19 people, including the convener of the non-violent popular uprising in Bangladesh, ABM Mustafa Amin, have been accused. Apart from this, 1200 people have been made anonymous accused.

The defendants named in the case are - the convener of the non-violent mass uprising of Bangladesh ABM Mustafa Amin, advocate Ziaur Rahmans, Syed Istiaq Ahmed (47), Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury (56), Md. Mehdi Hasan (34), convenor of non-violent mass uprising Bangladesh Netrokona. Rahat Imam Noman (33), Md. Masud (37), Ibrahim (29), Md. Alek Farazi (44), Md. Saiful Islam (48), Md. Abu Bakkar (49), Md. Rinku (21), Md. Nizam Uddin (32), Syed Harun Or Rashid (60), Md. Afzal Mandal (42), Abdur Rahim (30), Nurnabi (45), Md. Shahid (28) and deleted. Kohinoor Akter (50).

According to the complaint of the case, on November 25, under the banner of 'Non-violent Public Uprising Bangladesh', they gathered at Shahbag intersection to create a riot and worsen the law and order situation by offering interest-free loans to the common people of various districts including Dhaka. The accused broke the plastic road divider used for traffic control at Shahbag intersection and caused damage estimated at Rs.20,000.
