The situation in the country has become heated due to the clash between the police and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists who have been vocal in demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Police said four Rangers were killed in the clash. Four Rangers personnel deployed on the Srinagar highway were hit by a speeding vehicle on Monday night. The police alleged that the four people died in the attack of the protestors.
In addition, two policemen have died, the Pakistani government has said. Many police and army personnel were also injured. On the other hand, PTI says that many of its activists have been injured by law and order forces.
PTI leaders counter claim that their protest program is 'peaceful', the government wants to turn it violent. They also alleged that many PTI workers were injured in the clash with the police.
Meanwhile, the convoy of vehicles headed for Islamabad's D-chowk reached the 'Zero Point' on Tuesday morning. The region became heated again and again due to the conflict between the two sides.
Thousands of PTI workers joined the protest led by Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. With a huge fleet of vehicles, they left for Islamabad's D Chowk.
The situation gradually became fiery due to the clashes between the police and the protestors. The protest program called across the country turned into violence as the two sides clashed.
Keeping in mind the situation, tight security has been wrapped around. Police and army have been deployed in large numbers. Several important roads in Islamabad have been blocked by huge shipping containers and barricades. As many as 700 shipping containers have been placed at locations across Islamabad, with the sole purpose of preventing PTI workers from entering D Chowk.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists clashed with the police on Tuesday when they reached Zero Point on Islamabad's main highway Srinagar Highway (Kashmir Highway).
The police alleged that the protesters were throwing stones at them. On the other hand, PTI activists-supporters participating in the protest claimed that force was being used unfairly on them. Tear gas shells are being fired to disperse, baton charges are being used.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi alleged that the PTI is currently being controlled by a 'secret leadership'.
While talking to reporters at D Chowk, Mohsin Naqvi said that the rest of the leadership cannot do anything in front of the secret leadership of PTI. PTI leadership also does not want bloodshed, but agenda of hidden leadership will not work in Pakistan.
On Imran Khan's 'final call', the convoy headed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur reached Zero Point on Tuesday morning from Peshawar. Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi is also with the convoy.
PTI leader Arbab Naseem, who was with the convoy, told the BBC, "We are at zero point." Our workers are removing the barricades.
He hoped, before daylight, they would reach D Choc. When asked about their upcoming program, Arbar Naseem said that they want to sit on dharna after reaching D Chowk.
Incidentally, the border of the 'Red Zone' begins where a large number of troops have been deployed, according to administration sources.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) countered that its program was peaceful. The government is deliberately changing the situation. Not only that, they allege, the government is trying to push this program towards conflict.
A statement issued by the party's spokesperson said, “PTI reiterates that our workers are completely unarmed and we are conducting the protest peacefully. Violence is not our way and we have never resorted to it. Despite all the fascism and oppression of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, it has remained peaceful for the past two and a half years. This time too it is completely peaceful.”
