The court sentenced eight people to life imprisonment in the case of Kamal's murder in Joypurhat. Apart from this, each of them was sentenced to a fine of 50 thousand rupees and two years imprisonment in default.
Additional session judge Nurul Islam of the first court gave the verdict on Tuesday afternoon. At that time, four of the accused were present in the court and four were absconding.
Joypurhat court lawyer Shahnur Rahman Shahin confirmed the matter.
The convicts are Sujaul alias Sejaul, son of deceased Tashir Uddin of Teghar Rail Gate area of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila, Rubel son of deceased Moinuddin of Mujibnagar area, Lomba Babu son of Khorshed Alam of Teghar Railgate area of Polikadwa, Zia son of deceased Jobbar Mandal of Purb Devipur village, Hasan son of Dewan Para Mohalla. Mizanur Rahman aka Picchi Jewel, Faridul Islam alias Kana Sabuj son of Shajahan Ali Mistry of Gouripara village, Rana Ahmed son of Obaidul Mistry and Mithun son of Jalal Uddin of Islamnagar village.
According to the source of the case, on October 3, 2015, Kamal Hossain finished his dinner at around 9:30 pm. At around 10:30 pm, tall Babu called Kamal Hossain outside the house on his mobile phone. At 10:30 p.m., Kamal's family members came out of the house and found Kamal's body lying in Babu's house with bloody injuries in various places. On receiving the information, the police came and recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue.
The victim's mother Moshammad Begum filed a case on October 4, 2015 at the Jaipurhat Sadar police station naming 8 people and 5 to 6 unknown accused.
Later, Farid Hossain, the then investigating officer of the case filed the charge sheet in the court on February 28, 2017. After long testimony and hearing, the court judge announced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
