Major League Soccer's Inter Miami is looking for a new coach after Gerardo Martino stepped down. They quickly found a coach. Inter Miami did just that by announcing the appointment of Javier Macherano as their new coach on Tuesday. Macherano then replaced Martino.
Macherano was last coach of the Argentina U-20 and Olympic teams before becoming coach of Inter Miami. Miami signed a three-year contract with Macherano. The 40-year-old Macherano will start working with Messi after completing some other contractual tasks.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and Javier Macherano met again. Macherano is getting a chance to work together again with his long-time partner in the national team. However, the former defender of Argentina will work as Messi's mentor, not teammate. Macherano was appointed as the new coach at Messi's club.
Not only in the national team, the two Argentine stars were also teammates in Barcelona earlier. Not only is Messi reuniting with Macherano — the Argentine star is also reuniting with three former Barcelona stars Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez.
Meanwhile, Inter Miami's co-owner Jorge Mas said, why did they appoint Macherano as a coach? This job required someone who could bring out the best in our world stars and other players. Javier has amassed unique experience playing on the world's biggest stages and coaching international youth football.
V always proved why he is a great player. The determination, knowledge, instincts and understanding of the game—all made him the best. We are thrilled to hand over the responsibility to him.
Meanwhile, Macherano told about his goals as a coach - 'It is an honor for me to be the coach of a club like Inter Miami. I want to make the most of the opportunity. The ambition and infrastructure of the organization will help me do that. I look forward to working with the people at Inter Miami to take the club to new heights. I want to give fans unforgettable moments.
Messi also played a role in Macherano becoming coach of Inter Miami. After Martino announced his resignation, the club wanted Messi to know who he would like to see as the next coach.
It should be noted that Macherano, who started his professional career for Argentina's River Plate, played in Brazil's Corinthians, England's West Ham and Liverpool, and Spain's Barcelona. Macherano won five La Liga titles with Barca and two Champions Leagues.
