John Tinniswood was born on 26 August 1912 in Liverpool, UK to Ada and John Bernard Tinniswood. The same year the Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean. In 2020, John became the oldest man in the UK.

John Alfred was a lifelong supporter of the Liverpool football team. He enjoyed every trophy match won by the club except 1901 and 1906. In April this year, Guinness World Records recognized John Alfred as the world's oldest man.

John's family said in a statement that he had many fine qualities. He was very intelligent, prudent, brave, calm in any crisis, brilliant in mathematics and a good man. These qualities stood him in good stead during his military service in the Royal Army Pace Corps during World War II. There he was involved in accounting and auditing, identifying stranded soldiers and arranging food supplies.

John met his wife Blodwen at a dance in Liverpool. They got married in 1942. Their daughter Suzanne was born in 1943. The couple enjoyed 44 years of married life. John's wife died in 1986.

After World War II, John Alfred worked for Royal Mail. He later worked as an accountant for oil companies Shell and BP and retired in 1972. John's family said even after retirement he was active in various volunteer activities.

During his lifetime, John once told the BBC in an interview that he was much more active in his youth. He used to walk a lot. But he has no idea how he survived for so long. He is no different from others. John said, 'You may live a long time or a short time. And you have nothing to do about it.'

Before his 100th birthday, John Alfred moved to Hollis Rest Care Home in Southport. Spend the rest of your life there. Ever since he turned 100 in 2012, Britain's late Queen Elizabeth II sent him a birthday card every year. Queen Elizabeth was 14 years younger than John. The current King Charles III also continued this style of sending cards.

The oldest man in the world was Jiroimon Kimura of Japan. He lived for 116 years and 54 days. He died in 2013. Currently, the world's oldest woman and man is 116-year-old Tomiko Itoka from Japan.
