The Office of the Chief Adviser has announced legal progress in the murder of Assistant Public Counsel Saiful Islam Alif, who was killed by the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the court premises in Chittagong. According to a message, at least six suspects have been arrested after watching the video.
According to the message sent to the media, Chittagong Metropolitan Police has arrested at least six suspects in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif. These six people have been identified through video footage.
CMP arrested 21 people on charges of vandalism and assault on police during the clashes on Tuesday. Six members of the Awami League and the banned Chhatra League have been arrested with homemade improvised explosives (cocktails) in the port city.
On Tuesday, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari's followers clashed with the law enforcement agencies and lawyers demanding the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the sedition case. At one point in the clash, Chinmoy Das' followers picked up lawyer Saiful Islam Alif from under the court building and took him behind Rangam Convention Hall. There, this lawyer of the state party was killed with native weapons and left.
Video footage of the killing went viral on social media in no time. It shows that lawyer Alif is lying on the ground after being attacked by a group of radical protesters. He was bleeding continuously from his neck and head. But even then the followers of Chinmoy Das continued to attack him mercilessly.
Meanwhile, the first funeral of the deceased lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was held at around 10:30 am today. When the body was brought to the court in the morning, most of the lawyers broke down in tears. They demanded immediate arrest and trial of the killers.
After that, Alif's body was taken to Jamiatul Falah Mosque grounds in Nagar. A second funeral was held there. Hasnat Abdullah, convenor of the anti-discrimination student movement, and Sarjis Alam, member of the civic committee and general secretary of July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, participated in the funeral.
