Jumbangla Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that the true face has started to emerge within three months of the August 5 revolution. The bigger the talk, the longer the speech. If differences remain in our own house, we will never be able to fix it.'
He said these things while expressing concern over some recent incidents in a discussion meeting organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the National Press Club on Wednesday afternoon. Martyr Dr. in the 1990s uprising. The meeting was held on the occasion of the death anniversary of Shamsul Alam Khan Milan on the role of medical society in democratic movement and state formation.
Expressing disappointment, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Unfortunately for us, some people - they think themselves very popular and most patriotic, and today they are pushing the entire nation towards division and pushing it towards a darkness."
Without mentioning anyone's name, BNP Secretary General said to the doctors present, 'You should think deeply, I will not mention anyone's name. I don't want to name anyone. You should think coldly that those who are pushing the country towards division, towards disunity, are actually our enemies or allies. These things must be understood. I brought up the words today on purpose.'
Mirza Fakhrul called on the interim government to reform and go to the election soon. At the same time, those who are in charge of the government (advisors), requested them not to say anything that would create confusion among the people.
He said, 'The people of Bangladesh have fought for 15 years for the democratic system, gave their lives, went to jail, were tortured. Those people achieved another victory on August 5, 2024. That victory was achieved through a lot of blood on the road, through many lives. But what is the result of this Bangladesh? It has not been three months, and now the fighting has started in the streets. We are bleeding each other's chest. Now newspaper offices are being burnt, attacked.'
In this context, Mirza Fakhrul Islam mentioned some recent events. He said, 'These few days we are very worried, worried, terribly worried. You can think, what madness has started in Bangladesh based on religion! You can think, for the free independent media we fought for so long, his office is burning! We don't want to see this Bangladesh, at least I don't want to.' At that time, he strongly condemned the attack that started on Prothom Alo, Daily Star and other newspapers.
Referring to the posts of various people on social media, BNP Secretary General said, 'What madness! When I see, I am afraid. Burn it, burn it - this kind of talk. You can think about where Bangladesh is being taken. Do we understand where our fear is, where is the panic? Do we understand where the assailant is standing with the knife, behind us. I don't understand, if I understood, such irresponsible words would not have come out of our mouths.'
BNP Secretary General said, 'I have fought for 14-15 years, went to jail many times, ready to go to jail again anytime. But I don't want to see this Bangladesh. I will say what I believe, what my party believes, even if it costs my life. I believe in liberal democracy, I believe in freedom of speech, freedom of vote. I know, many people say a lot, but I don't care that much. Because we have come to this place after fighting from the streets. We don't run away at the convenience of time, we stand in front.'
Mirza Fakhrul commented that it is not possible to move the country forward with hatred and division in the society. Addressing the doctors present, he said, 'You are the best people of this society. You were the best in your student life and the best in your career. So I am raising this question before you. How much more with this division, and how much hatred will I try to pull up the immortal Bangladesh. Will be pulled again and again, read again with disgust. Will rise again with demonic power, fall again. What nation are we? This is an opportunity to bring a change together. The boys were there, we were there too.'
