Allegedly, the Nayantara-directed Netflix documentary 'Nayantara: Beyond the Fairy Tale' used a few seconds of footage of Dhanush without his permission. Which is related to Dhanush production company Nanum Rowdy Dhan. Dhanush has filed a case against Nayantara, her husband Vignesh Shivan and their production house Rowdy Pictures Pvt Ltd in the Madras High Court in Chennai.
Dhanush's lawyer P.S. Raman appealed to the court for permission to file this case. On the other hand, lawyers for Nayantara and Netflix Satish Parasaran and R. Parthasarathy challenged this plea. After the hearing, the judge agreed to Dhanush's plea.
Prior to this legal action, Dhanush issued a legal notice last week, in which he claimed that he would take legal action if Nayantara and Netflix did not remove the footage of his production within 24 hours. "Remove within 24 hours the footage your client has used in violation of my client's copyright," his lawyer's statement read. If not, my client will be forced to take appropriate legal action including compensation of Rs 10 crore.'
Meanwhile, Nayantara in an open letter on Instagram termed Dhanush's compensation claim as 'lowest level'. He said, 'Shah Rukh Khan, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan and other producers have given me permission to use the footage of their movies without any hesitation. But Dhanush is behaving like this.'
