Space exploration is always risky and expensive. Despite this risk, many countries are conducting space missions year after year. Among them are USA, Russia, China, Japan and India. Exploring the unknown of space requires years of planning, sophisticated technology and a lot of money. Many such missions have been successful. But something has failed. Thousands of crores of rupees have been lost in those missions.
Orion spacecraft
James Webb Space Telescope
The James Webb Space Telescope is operated by the US space agency NASA, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the European Space Agency (ESA). This telescope probes deep into space. It is looking for the first light of the universe. Already this telescope has played an important role in space, astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology research. It is constantly sending new information.
Global Positioning System (GPS)
Global Positioning System or GPS is a system of satellites. Owned by the United States Space Force, the system is operated by a unit of the force—Mission Delta 31. Because of these satellites we can know the exact location of roads or any people. Google Maps on mobile uses data from this satellite system. The system cost $12 billion to build, but it costs $1.84 billion per year to operate (2023).
Orion spacecraft
Orion is a spacecraft. After 1972, NASA wants to send people to the moon again. Artemis program has been launched for this. The Orion spacecraft was built as part of this program. Officially, the budget was passed in 2014, but the work of this navigation has started since 2011. In the future, this spacecraft will be used to carry astronauts to the Moon, Mars and some asteroids.
Space Launch System
The Space Launch System was launched in 2011 as the successor to the Space Shuttle program. This space launch system is also used to send spacecraft with astronauts, scientific equipment or carry heavy payloads to the lower orbit of the Earth.
Apollo program
Humans first set foot on the lunar soil thanks to the Apollo missions. Under this program man went to the moon 6 times. But there are also some failures. In 1967, 3 astronauts died as a result of a fire during the Apollo 1 mission. Since then, NASA has become more cautious, tightening security. Following this, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped on the moon as the first astronauts in July 1969. A third astronaut, Michael Collins, was waiting for them in lunar orbit. After that, man went to the moon five more times. The program culminated with the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. NASA collected about 382 kg of lunar samples during the entire project.
