On November 20, a complaint was filed against Gautam Adani and his seven associates in a court in the state of New York. According to the complaint, Gautam Adani paid a total of 26.5 million dollars in bribes to several officials of the country to get a mega solar power project in India. He paid this bribe to get the contract work of the project to his company Adani Green Energy.
Other opposition parties, including India's main opposition Congress, have accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of protecting the Adani group and obstructing investigations into it inside India. However, both Modi and BJP denied the allegations.
After the adjournment of the session, Congress MP Manikom Thakur told the Indian media NI, "We want to discuss this issue in Parliament." For the past three days, the Congress has been seeking an explanation from the Prime Minister, but he and his party MPs have been evading it time and again. Today, when we wanted to discuss this again, they (BJP MPs) started a ruckus.
Born and raised in the Indian state of Gujarat, Gautam Adani is a staunch supporter of the ruling BJP. The current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also hails from the state of Gujarat. As such, Adani has a very close relationship with Modi.
However, neither Narendra Modi nor the BJP's central high command has publicly spoken a single word about it after the complaint was framed and the warrant issued.
However, some top BJP leaders told ANI on the condition of anonymity that BJP will never go against him even if he is not openly biased. Because the party believes, industrialists are partners in nation building.
