The Sri Lankan cricket team is in a bad state when visiting South Africa. In the first innings of the first Test of the two-match Test series, Sri Lanka set a shameful record by being bowled out for just 42 runs.

This is the team's lowest score in the history of Test cricket. Earlier in 1994, hosts Sri Lanka were bowled out for 71 runs against Pakistan in Kandy.

The first Test of the series started on Wednesday in Durban, South Africa. Sri Lanka won the toss and sent South Africa to bat first.

Batting first, South Africa were bowled out for 191 runs in 49.4 overs in front of the pace of Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara.

Captain Timba Bavuma scored the maximum 70 runs for the team. Besides, Keshav Maharaj scored the second highest 24 runs. However, six batsmen could not score double-digit runs.

In response, Sri Lanka was all out for 42 runs in just 13.5 overs, losing wickets one after the other in the face of Marco Jensen's pace. Kamindu Mendis scored the maximum 13 runs for the team. Lahiru Kumara scored 10 runs.

The remaining 9 batsmen could not score double digit runs. More importantly, five batsmen were dismissed for zero runs. For South Africa, Marco Jensen took 7 wickets for just 13 runs in 6.5 overs.
