Next Sunday (December 1) Jai Shah will take over as ICC chairman. The secretary of the Indian Cricket Board will now sit in the World Cricket Council. Meanwhile, the debate surrounding the organization of next year's Champions Trophy is not over yet. ICC has not yet decided whether the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan.
ICC meeting is tomorrow Friday (November 29). A final decision can be taken there. Jai Shah will be present on behalf of the Indian Cricket Board in that meeting. Even though the Champions Trophy was decided before he took over, the Pakistan board is also realizing that Joy is the real man. For that reason, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has appealed to Joy in advance.
Earlier, such a situation was created before the Asia Cup in 2023. India did not want to play in Pakistan. Shah was the head of the Asian Cricket Council at that time. The committee headed by him decided to compete in hybrid models. India play all their matches in Sri Lanka. The remaining matches are played in Pakistan. The final was held in Sri Lanka. In the end, Pakistan was the host country of the competition, albeit in a hybrid model. As a result, they got profit money.
This is the first time since 1996 that Pakistan is hosting an ICC tournament. PCB has started renovation of stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. They have invested heavily. In this situation, if there is no competition, Pakistan will suffer. Their faces will burn. Pakistan is trying to prevent that from happening.
PCB Chairman Naqvi requested that Jai Shah should think about world cricket. He said that Jai Shah will take charge in December. I am sure after going from BCCI to ICC he will think about the profit of ICC. That's what he should do. When one takes any responsibility, he should think about the profit of that organization. My request - think about world cricket with his new responsibility.
Naqvi also said that if there is any problem with the Champions Trophy later, Shah has the power to solve that problem. Because even when he was the secretary of the Indian board, Shah had an influence on various decisions of the ICC. Pakistan knows about his power. That is why the Pak Board feels that there will be no problem in organizing the competition after Shah takes over. They see the light of hope. So Naqvi requested in advance.
The Chairman of the Pakistan Board said, I promise, I will try my best to make the Champions Trophy happen in Pakistan. I am in regular contact with the ICC chairman. We have made our position clear. Last year we went to play the World Cup in India. So what is India's problem? Their claim cannot be accepted. Also they did not tell us anything in writing.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February-March next year. But India has informed from the beginning that they will not go there to play. India has not played in Pakistan since 2008. They requested the ICC to move the game to another country. If not, at least BCCI has requested to organize the game in hybrid model. However, Pakistan is adamant about its demands. According to ICC sources, the PCB will be offered about Rs 591 crore as compensation for agreeing to the hybrid model. The main challenge for the ICC officials is to convince the Pakistani cricket authorities. Before that meeting, the Pakistan Cricket Board reached Shah's door.
