A fair election is not possible even for an impartial EC if the government does not cooperate

If the government does not help, then it is not possible for the impartial election commission to conduct a fair election, said the head of the electoral reform commission formed by the interim government. Editor Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar.

If the government does not help, then it is not possible for the impartial election commission to conduct a fair election, said the head of the electoral reform commission formed by the interim government. Editor Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar.

He made this comment in the speech of the chief guest in the Shadow Parliament titled 'Election, Role of Candidates and Citizens for Fair Election' organized by Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) Debate for Democracy.

Badiul Alam, editor of Citizen for Good Governance (Sujan), said that there are many stakeholders in the election, the most important stakeholder is the Election Commission. It is a constitutional institution. Elections are not a matter of one day. It's a process. This process must be fair and accurate. Voters should be able to vote freely without any pressure. All the responsibilities of the commission are from preparation of correct voter list to completion of elections.

He said, 'After the Election Commission (EC), the most important partner in the election is the government. If the government does not help, it will not be possible for the impartial election commission to conduct fair elections.'

Badiul Alam said, 'One of the other participants in the election is law enforcement and political parties. They must be honest. If they are not neutral, it is not possible for the commission to conduct fair elections. At the same time, the need for media and civil society is essential. A neutral atmosphere will prevail in the elections with the combination of these.

The head of the Electoral System Reform Commission also said, "I think that everyone who has served the commission in the last three elections should be brought to justice."

Dr. about the current election commission. Badiul Alam said, the identity of the tree will be the result of the tree. I hope there will be a fair election. But I think there is no such risk for this election commission. There will be no single election pressure like last three years. The influence that the fascists had in the previous election will not be there this time. But some of the challenges are to update the voters, especially the diaspora, which is around one and a half crore. Making arrangements for their voting.

He also said that many media did not give real information about the last three national elections. He said that the role of media in elections is important. But in the last three elections, some media deliberately did not tell the truth. Others are forced to hide the truth.

At that time, he said, earlier there were many reform committees - but they could not reform or change anything. If they had reformed, August 5 would not have been created. That is why reform is very important this time. Some time should be given for that. So that the bitter experiences of the past do not come back. Reasonable time should be given for this.

Badiul Alam said, we will submit the reform recommendations to the government by December 31. After that the roadmap of how it will be implemented will start. The interim government will sit with the political parties with our recommendations. A roadmap for reforms will then be developed. The election roadmap will be based on consensus. How much time will they give? Time is very important in this.

Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the ceremony.

Kiran said that it is the prime responsibility of the interim government to hold elections after the necessary reforms as soon as possible. Although the head of the interim government said in his address to the nation, the election train has started, it will not stop. But it is better if people know when this train will reach the last station. The current government should take into consideration that if the election is delayed, there is a fear that the allies of the fascist government will create chaos in the country. That is why the government should announce the election roadmap and start the process of transfer of power within a reasonable period of time.
