Police have arrested 5 people in connection with the murder of Babul, a battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver in Rupganj, Narayanganj. They were arrested on Thursday night in Daudpur and Narsingdi areas of Rupganj. At this time, the stolen autorickshaw was recovered.

The arrested are Sukkur Mia son of Kashem of Sharifpur area under Brahmanbaria Ashuganj police station, Ahad Molla son of Shaheen Molla of Nayani para under Pubail police station of Gazipur, Habibur Rahman Habu son of Aolad, Sohan son of Shanto Mia of Ganganagar area under Harirampur police station of Manikganj and Delwar Hossain son of Kuti Mia of Baniachal area of Narsingdi.
Purbachal camp in-charge SI Jahangir Alam said that on November 23, Babul Mia left his home Pubail Kazipara in Gazipur by autorickshaw. The next day, the police recovered Babul Mia's body from the paddy field of Agla area of Daudpur Union of Rupganj.
Sohag, the son of the deceased driver Babul, filed a murder case at Rupganj Police Station as the plaintiff.
In that case, Sukkur Mia, Ahad Molla, Habibur and Sohan were arrested from Daupura of the upazila on Thursday night. Later, according to their confession, Delwar Hossain was arrested along with the stolen auto-rickshaw from Baniachal area of Narsingdi.
Liaqat Ali, OC of Rupganj police station, said that during the preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons confessed that Babul was strangled to death by twisting an iron chain around his neck while robbing his auto-rickshaw. Later the arrested were sent to Narayanganj court.
