Jumbangla Desk: When the Jamaat activists objected to the gathering of Awami League family members in Mirsrai, the local Youth Dal workers first started a verbal altercation and then a scuffle followed by a fight. At least 20 people from both sides including a media worker were injured.
The incident took place at S Rahman School of Ward No. 3 of Mirsarai Municipality on Friday (November 29) evening.
Kamrul Hasan, convenor of the local Mirsarai Municipal Youth Party, said that on Friday afternoon, after receiving the news of the gathering of Jamaat workers at S Rahman School in our area, some of our leaders and activists went to the meeting place and found there a meeting of Jamaat workers with some active Chhatra League workers of the families of the former officials of the Municipal Awami League. When I reached the spot and tried to deal with the situation, the Jamaat leaders and activists attacked at least 10 of our leaders and activists. Among them, seriously injured Jubo Dal workers Riaz (26) and Hasan (30) were admitted to Chamek Hampatal and Chhatra Dal workers Sharif (22) and Rifat (24) along with me were admitted to Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, office secretary of Upazila Jamaat Shafiqul Alam Shikder said, 'In the afternoon, a staff rally was going on in Ukk school ground as part of the organizational program. Meanwhile, local youth party leaders and activists ambushed. Several of us were injured.
The injured are - Upazila Jamaat Secretary Anwarullah Alam Mamun (55), Daily Bhorer Darpan newspaper's Mirsarai correspondent Ashraf Uddin (39), Jamaat worker Md. Nurul Alam (40), Shahidul Islam (30), Saiful Islam (25), Kafil Uddin (20), Noor Uddin (33), Kazi Sameer (20), Tanjim (18), Sabbir Shahadat (20) and Rahat Hasan Hasib. (18).
All the injured are under treatment at Upazila Health Complex Mustannagar Hospital. Meanwhile, the injured Nurul Alam has been shifted to Chamek Hospital for better treatment.
Amir of Mirsarai Thana Jamaat. Nurul Kabir said, "They have attacked our workers' gathering by disrupting the interests of the terrorists." The matter is being discussed in an organizational manner and the process of taking legal action is underway.
In this regard, Mirsarai Upazila BNP convener Shahidul Islam Chowdhury said, 'The incident of attack on Jamaat gathering in the urban area is undesirable. Now in this independent country of ours, people of any party or ideology can hold all meetings freely. We will not support fascist behavior with anyone.
Zobair Hossain Tarek, the doctor in charge of the emergency department of Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, said that several people were admitted to the hospital due to the fight in the evening. They left with first aid. However, some have been shifted to Chamek Hospital for better treatment.
In this regard, Inspector (Investigation) of Mirsarai Police Station, Diptesh Roy said, 'Several people, including journalists, were injured in the attack on Jamaat workers' gathering in Ward No. 3 of the municipality. No one has filed a complaint in the police station so far. If complaints are received, legal action will be taken after investigation. The situation is normal.'
