Bangladeshi mountaineer conquers Himalaya's Tharong peak

Bangladeshi mountaineer M.A. Muhith has scaled the Tharong peak in the Himalayas. After climbing a boulder and a steep glacier of about 2,400 feet, he reached the top of 'Tharong' on the morning of November 5. M.A. Muhith has previously climbed Everest twice.

This information was given at a press conference organized on the occasion of the flag-return ceremony at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club in the capital on Friday.

The press conference said that the Tharong mountain peak located in the Annapurna Himalayas of Nepal is 20,157 feet high. Bangladeshi mountaineer M. A. Muhith went to Nepal on October 25 this year and started trekking from the village called 'Chame' (altitude 8,760 feet) on October 29. After trekking about 50 km, he reached the base camp on November 3 and established the high camp at an altitude of 17,770 feet on November 4. Along with guides Mingma Chiri Sherpa and Ang Dorji Sherpa, he started the final ascent from the high camp at 11:45 pm on November 4. Later, at 6:20 am Nepal time on November 5, they climbed to the top of 'Tharong'. The 'Tharong' mountain peak expedition was conducted by the Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club and jointly sponsored by Ispahani Tea Limited and Channel Twenty-Four.

 

Nepal's Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari, educationist Emeritus Professor Syed Manjurul Islam, Ispahani Tea Limited Manager-Sales and Distribution Md. Emdadul Islam, and Channel 24 Executive Director Talat Mamun were present as guests at the press conference.
