Australian pacer Mitchell Starc gave India a nightmare on the first day of the day-night Adelaide Test. The pacer bowled his career-best innings as India were bowled out for 180 in the first innings.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat at the Adelaide Oval. However, his team stumbled with the first ball of the innings when he came out to bat. Starc's fiery pace ball led to Yashasvi Jaiswal being dismissed without opening the scorebook.
After the initial shock, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill tried to get India back on track. Both of them played innings of over thirty but failed to get the team's batting back on track. Rahul was caught by McSweeney off Starc's delivery for 37 runs.
Shubman, who scored 31 runs, was trapped by Jacques Boland at leg-before. The two senior cricketers Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma disappointed with the bat. Kohli was dismissed for 7 runs by Starc. And Rohit, who left the opening and came down to bat in the middle order, got a total of 3 runs.
Among the middle-order and tail-row batsmen, only Nitish Kumar Reddy tried to put up a bit of resistance. But even he had to stop before reaching fifty in Starc's incredible day. Nitish, who had scored 42 runs, was caught by the head at mid-off while trying to hit a big shot off the pacer.
As Nitish walks towards the dressing room as India's last batsman, Starc's bowling figures are 6 wickets for 48 runs. This is now Starc's best bowling performance in an innings in his 91-Test career.
