New US sanctions on Iran

International Desk: sanctions The US Treasury Department on Friday imposed new sanctions aimed at disrupting Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicle or UAV program.
Iran has allegedly been supplying Russia with lethal UAVs (drones) for use in attacks against Ukraine.
The U.S. Department of Revenue’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, or OFAC, said in a news release
that it has targeted an Iranian aviation executive and four commercial entities linked to the previously sanctioned Ryan Roshad Afzar company, which procure critical components for the UAV program.
The targeted executive is Afshin Khazeh Fard, head of Iran’s Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO). He operates from Tehran.

According to the OFAC department, Khajeh Fard oversees the IAIO’s work efforts to develop UAVs and missiles, and he promotes Iran’s UAV program’s innovation process and efforts to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
Friday’s sanctions meant the seizure of all property and property interests belonging to Khazeh Fard or four entities controlled by the United States or from there.
Iran supplied thousands of Shahed kamikaze drones to Russia during the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. They have been used to destroy Ukraine’s air defenses and target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The European Union also announced on Friday that it was targeting Iran’s drone industry.
