In such a context, the Civil Aviation Authority (CABA) has ordered the removal or demolition of illegal parts of five under-construction buildings and one that has already been completed.

These buildings are located on Road No. 1 of Priyanka Runway City housing project in Uttara.

According to Babychak's instructions, these buildings, which are almost double the height of the approval, are creating a risk for flight movements as they are next to the runway.

In this regard, the chairman of Babychak, Air Vice Marshal Md. Manzoor Kabir Bhuiyan said on Sunday, “We have asked our ATM (Air Traffic Management) director to identify and remove the illegal parts of those buildings. We have also asked Rajuk to remove the vulnerable parts of the building. We are proceeding systematically in this regard.”

The letter states that the buildings are located next to the runway-14 approach funnel (adjacent to the north) of the airport.

It is said in the letter that recently these buildings came to the notice of Babychak Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Manzoor Kabir Bhuiyan. He then instructed to take necessary measures to remove the buildings.

The letter sent to the director of BabyChak (CNS) has asked to take necessary action regarding the illegal building to ensure safe take off and landing at Shahjalal International Airport.


According to the letter, Plot No. 9, 13, 26, 30 and 36 of Road No. 1 and Plot No. 51 of Road No. 3 of Priyanka Runway City in Uttara have been made higher than the permissible height as per OLS (Obstruction Limitation Surface).

OLS refers to the positional guidance around plane flight.

Among the buildings, Plot No. 26 of Road No. 1 with approval of 35 feet (3 floors) and 80 feet (7 floors), Plot No. 9 with approval of 36 feet (3 floors) and 80 feet (7 floors), Plot No. 13 of 46 feet (4 floors) 90 feet (8 floors) with approval, Plot No. 13 with approval of 44 feet 90 feet, Plot No. 36 with approval of only 56 feet (5 floors) is constructing 90 feet (8 floors) building.

Besides, Plot No. 51 of Road No. 3 is approved for 73 feet (6 floors).

110 feet (10 storey) building is under construction. Among them, the building construction of plot number 30 has been completed.

Bdnews24.com could not get the statement of Landpac Limited, the parent company of Priyanka Runway City and the owner of the building regarding the construction of illegal parts of these buildings without permission.
