The case was filed on Sunday (September 15) in connection with the shooting death of a man named Abdul Hadis (42) at a polling station on March 23, 2014 in Akhaura Upazila of the district. Senior Judicial Magistrate Afrin Ahmed directed the OC of Akhaura police station to register the statement as a case.


Akhaura municipality councilor and former municipal BNP president Bahar Mia filed the case as the plaintiff. He is the younger brother of deceased Abdul Hadis Bahar.

Another 100 to 200 unidentified people were accused in the case. The other accused in the case are Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, former chairman of Akhaura Upazila Parishad and former joint convener of Upazila Awami League, Furkan Khalifa, general secretary of C&F Agent, brother of Takzil Khalifa Kajl, Jahangir Mia, former leader of Akhaura Upazila BNP, Jewel Khan, Nahid Khan and Upazila of Taragon. Sramik League leader Nashir Mia.


According to the statement of the case, the election of Akhaura Upazila Parishad was held on March 23, 2014. At that time, Abul Kashem was the nominated chairman candidate of Awami League. The deceased Hadis Mia was staying about 300 yards away from the polling station. The defendants in the case informed the former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Municipal Mayor Takzil Khalifa about the location of BNP workers near the polling station. Anisul and Takzil ordered the acting BGB commander to shoot dead Hadith and others on sight. The then BGB commander reached the spot and opened fire with a rifle. Hadis died on the spot after being shot in the right side of the chest. Later, when she was taken to the 250-bed Brahmanbaria General Hospital, the doctor on duty declared Hadich dead.

 


Nuruzzaman Lashkar, the lawyer of the plaintiff side of the case, said that this statement was filed on the charges of murder under the provisions of the Explosives Act and Speedy Trial. The court directed the officer-in-charge of Akhaura police station to register the statement as a case.
