International Desk: The top commanders of the Indian Navy are meeting to review the security situation in India and its surroundings amid growing regional instability. It is said that the meeting will start from Tuesday (September 17).
A report by Indian media outlet NDTV on Sunday (September 15) said, 'Regime change in Bangladesh and the growing influence of extremist and radical groups there have created new concerns, which are expected to come up for discussion at the meeting. Another major concern is the growing activity of China and its military support to Pakistan.'
The four-day meeting will be held from September 17 at the new naval headquarters in Delhi, Indian news agency ANI said, citing defense officials.
This will be the first conference after Admiral Dinesh Tripathi took charge as the Chief of Naval Staff in April this year.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh recently asked the commanders of the Indian armed forces to analyze the current situation in Bangladesh and be ready to face anything 'unexpected'. Within a few days of his call, the meeting of Indian naval commanders was announced.
NDTV says the issue of creating a new theater command will also come up for discussion in the meeting. The admiral also ordered all commanders to be ready for operations at all times.
According to reports, the Indian Navy will review its operations in the Gulf of Aden, where it has achieved much success against pirates and drone attacks earlier this year.
The Indian Navy holds its Commander's Conference twice a year, which is attended by all senior officers.
