Shahid Tahmid Bhuiyan (15) is the son of Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan of Nandipara village of Chinishpur Union of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. Nachima is a class nine student of Qadir Mollah High School and Homes. He was the eldest among three brothers and sisters.

According to eyewitness sources, on July 18, a protest was going on demanding reform of quota at Jailkhana junction in Narsingdi city on Dhaka-Sylhet highway. At one point, Tahmid was caught in the middle of a police chase with the protestors. His chest was scratched by police firing. Tahmid died on the spot. He was taken to a local hospital. But the angry student-mob snatched Tahmid's body and marched along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway along the Narsingdi highway.

At this time, the protesters started chanting anti-tyranny slogans in front of the Shahid Minar of the main gate of Shahid Mosleh Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium. The police opened fire on Tahmid's body.

Tahmid's father Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan was present at the scene.

He said, 'I was bleeding heavily in my chest after seeing the shot on the boy's body, I almost became speechless while screaming. In this situation, the agitators threw the dead body in self-defense and dragged me into the nearby mosque.
When the situation is somewhat normal, return home with the help of the agitators. Later, without autopsy, I buried Tahmid in the local cemetery of the area after two rounds of janaza at his son's school and Chinishpur Eidgah on Thursday night.

He also said that even though the district administration asked me to do the autopsy, I did not agree. The boy was shot dead in front of everyone, what will happen after the autopsy? I will never get my son back.


It is to be noted that 14 of the 16 people killed on the streets of Narsingdi during the anti-discrimination student movement were shot dead and two were beaten to death. Among them, Tahmid Bhuiyan, a ninth grade student, was the first to be martyred.

Narsingdi's 100-bed district hospital supervisor ANM Mizanur Rahman told BASS, "The students brought the rubber bullet-pierced Tahmid to the hospital dead. He bled to death after a rubber bullet punctured his chest. Excited students took him away from the hospital soon after he was declared dead. We wanted to send his body to the morgue for post-mortem. It was not possible to do that in the face of students.

It has been seen on the ground that Tahmid's house is about 500 yards away from the Zillakhana junction where the incident took place. Tahmid's family lives in a tin-shaded paved house.

His father Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan said that apart from studies, Tahmid was a fan of cricket. A cricket fanatic, Tahmid used to enjoy playing cricket along with his studies. He dreamed of getting admission in BKSP, a renowned sports institution of the country. Will develop himself as a big cricketer of the country.

He said regretfully, but his dream was not fulfilled.

He also said that younger sister Linat Bhuiyan (13) was speechless by the death of only brother Tahmid. All the time the memory of the brother is clinging. His mental balance is also lost.

According to Tahmid's father's recollection of his son's death, the family had lunch together a few hours before his death. Two siblings were lying on the bed playing with mobile phones.
