According to state media reports, the storm hit 151 km. About 2.5 million people live in the city of Shanghai. After Typhoon Gloria hit in 1949, Babinka was hit this time.

A direct hit by a strong typhoon in Shanghai is extremely rare. It usually occurs in southern China. Earlier last week, the Category 4 super typhoon Yagi hit China's Hainan province on its strongest side.

Meanwhile, flights at two airports in Shanghai have been canceled since Sunday night due to Typhoon Babinka. Besides, some railway services of this city have also been stopped. The storm hit China at a time when the country is on a three-day public holiday for the Autumn Festival.
