Jumbangla Desk: Banning student politics in educational institutions was one of the demands of the student uprising. Last month, the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government made this demand even stronger. Discussions are still raging on social media for and against this claim. In such a situation, Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, clarified his position on student politics in Dhaka University.


Hasnat Abdullah clarified his position in a post on Facebook on Monday (September 16). There, he highlighted several demands related to ensuring fair environment of education and students' demands in Dhaka University. Among them is the demand to ban party student politics on campus.


Claims of Hasnat Abdullah

1. Party-based student politics should be banned on campus and initiatives should be taken to implement student councils.

2. The University should take the initiative to identify the BCL leaders and activists who attacked the students in the July Revolution and file a case.


3. In the last 15 years, the students who have been tortured and falsely accused by the Chhatra League in the campus should withdraw their false cases and ensure compensation.

4. Allotment of seats on the basis of merit should be ensured until the road map to turn the university into a full-fledged residential university is published and implemented.


5. To solve the housing crisis, new halls for women students should be constructed as soon as possible and the number of common rooms and facilities for women students should be increased in the university.


6. In view of the current seat crisis, the renovated Salimullah Muslim Hall has to provide seats to the students again.


7. The university should abolish the guest-common room system forever by law.

8. Need-based scholarships are to be guaranteed for first year students.

9. The central library of the university and the reading room of the hall should be modernized and expanded.


10. Quality of food in university canteens and cafeterias should be ensured and subsidy should be increased if necessary.

11. In order to ensure a safe campus, the movement of public transport within the university without the permission of the university should be controlled.


12. To ensure the health care of the students, the medical center of the university should be modernized and a dispensary should be set up in every hall.

13. The service quality of the registrar building needs to be modernized.

14. The central mosque of the university should be rebuilt in the light of modern architecture.
