Jumbangla Desk: There has been a clash between garment workers in Ashulia. A woman worker was killed. Meanwhile, production has stopped in 18 factories in the industrial area today.

Workers joined work in Ashulia industrial area on Tuesday morning as usual. However, as 75 workers were laid off at Palashbari Pearl Garments in Ashulia, the workers started protesting by not attending work.


On the other hand, the workers of the Mascot Group factory in Kathgara area started protesting and pelting bricks as they came to join work in the morning and found the factory closed.

At one point, when the workers of some nearby factories went to resist them, a clash broke out. A laborer named Rokeya Begum (35) died in this. Ashulia Police Station OC (Investigation) Md. Kamal Hossain confirmed the matter.


Later police, army, BGB members came and brought the situation under control.


Today, 18 factories in the industrial area of ​​Ashulia have stopped production. Out of this, 17 factories have been closed indefinitely by the authorities as per Section 13 (1) of the Labor Act. Apart from this, a general holiday has been given in the remaining 1 factory.


Apart from this, there were no reports of road blockades or protests in industrial areas. Besides, the factories of Dhaka EPZ along with other factories in the industrial area are operational.

Earlier in the morning, workers joined work in most of the factories in the Savar-Ashulia industrial area.

 


Meanwhile, additional police personnel have been deployed in front of the factories to avoid any untoward incident in the industrial area. Apart from this, joint patrols are continuing in the industrial areas.
