The group's leaders, government ministers and advisers were accused of shooting and killing hundreds of people in the movement. Almost every day someone is arrested in these cases. Former railway minister Nurul Islam Sujan, chairman of the advisory board of the 1971 killer-dealer elimination committee, Shahriar Kabir, were arrested on Monday. So far, more than two dozen Awami League ministers, members of parliament, advisers and top leaders have been arrested.


Among them are former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former prime minister's private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and Sheikh Hasina's former adviser on energy, mineral resources and power Taufiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury and former public administration minister Farhad Hossain.

Apart from this, several police officers including two former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun and AKM Shahidul Haque have been arrested.


After losing power, there were hundreds of cases against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, most of which were murder cases. Apart from this, a case has also been filed against the Awami League president on charges of genocide and kidnapping. The names of his sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul are also in the list of accused in these cases. Many top leaders of Awami League have the same name.


After Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5, several members of the Awami League government tried to leave the country through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Former Minister of State for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak was arrested from the airport. On the same day, the former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud was arrested shortly after that. Immigration police detained him. Airport sources said they were handed over to the army.


However, later Palak, Saikat and former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku were arrested on the same day from Nikunj residential area of ​​Khilkhet police station while hiding. However, the law and order forces have not yet said anything about the former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud.


The general secretary of the Dhaka University branch of Chhatra League Tanveer Hasan Saikat and the general secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan branch Riyaz Mahmud also came to the media from the airport. However, there is no information about whether they have been handed over to the army or not.


Meanwhile, after the fall of the government, cases of genocide, murder, disappearance, etc. are being filed against many leaders of the party, including Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. Many of them have been arrested, and many have been remanded.

Among those who have been arrested so far, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, former Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, former Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's advisor and Beximco Group Vice Chairman Salman F Rahman.


Besides, Awami League's organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain, former Minister of State for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam, former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, former Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon have also been arrested.

Ministers of the ousted government, state ministers and Awami League leaders have been arrested, as well as many former officials.


Among them, one of the discussed army officers is Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former director general of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center NTMC. After the fall of the government on August 5, he was relieved of his duties.

Along with this, the former Chairman of Chittagong Port, Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, who was once working in RAB, has also been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

 


However, many people are criticizing the way Awami League leaders and activists are being arrested around the death of the anti-quota movement in Bangladesh.
