Jumbangla Desk: A total of 14 thousand 269 crore 68 lakh rupees has been damaged in the recent flash floods in 11 districts of the north-eastern part of the country.

Farooq-e-Azam, Advisor to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief of the Interim Government, presented this information at a press conference organized in the Ministry's meeting room at the Secretariat on Tuesday.


He said, '9 lakh 42 thousand 821 people have been affected by this flood. 74 people died and 68 people were injured. A total loss of Tk 14 thousand two hundred 69 crore 68 lakh 33 thousand 522 has been caused due to flash flood on August 20 this year.

Farooq-e-Azam said that the damage has been assessed based on the information received from various ministries, and the rehabilitation program of the flood victims has already started. A central committee has been formed for this purpose. District and upazila committees will also be formed. The members of these committees will monitor the entire rehabilitation program.


The advisor said that crops worth 236 million 29 thousand 740 rupees were completely damaged in the flood. 718 crore 57 lakh 56 thousand 610 rupees crop has been partially damaged. The total number of fully damaged houses is 28 thousand 386 and partially damaged houses are 1 thousand 97.


Asked if the government has taken any decision in view of the appeal of the farmers of the flood-affected areas not to take their small loan installments for the time being, Farooq-e-Azam said, yes it has been done.


He mentioned that when this issue was raised in today's meeting, the installment money was canceled for three months considering the issue of the affected farmers based on everyone's opinion. He also said that the farmers will not have to pay installments till next October.


Regarding the roads damaged by the flood, he said, 2 thousand 2 hundred 32.92 kilometers of paved roads are complete and 3 thousand 9 hundred 84.34 kilometers of roads are partially damaged. 299.41 kms constructed by Itkhwa are damaged and 948.68 kms are partially damaged. Also, 1 thousand 151.85 kilometers of unpaved roads have been damaged and 8 thousand 849.61 kilometers have been partially damaged.


At this time, the advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Public Education. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said in response to a question from the journalists, "The amount of damage to our educational institutions in 11 flood-affected districts is Tk 32 crore. We have already allocated to cover it. The primary education program will return to normal within a month.
