Zumba Bangla Desk: Achim Troster, the German ambassador in Dhaka, said that his country will support the reform initiatives of the interim government and will give 600 million euros for Bangladesh's renewable energy.
The German Ambassador expressed his country's support during a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon, Dhaka today.
He said Germany has a long-standing relationship with Bangladesh and has become one of the country's largest development partners in recent years with over one billion euros in aid.
Troster said German support to Bangladesh would be demand-driven. Germany has already offered 50 million euros in renewable energy support to Bangladesh. Germany to loan 600 million euros over eight years for renewable energy.
Mentioning that this is a privileged programme, Bangladesh is one of the few countries that have received this project assistance.
During the meeting, Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus recalled his long friendship with German leaders, adding that he often attended the anniversaries of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
He also sought more German investment in Bangladesh and expertise and technology assistance in the fight against corruption.
The Chief Adviser said the nation is united behind the students and youth who usher in a new era of hope for the country.
He said, 'Now we have to focus on their aspirations. They should be helped to become entrepreneurs'.
Seeking more private German funding for renewable energy and green transition, Professor Yunus said his government is keen to remove any barriers to German investment in Bangladesh.
Chief Adviser's Special Envoy Lutfe Siddiqui briefed the German Ambassador about the reforms of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority.
He said, German and Bangladeshi firms can create green corridors.
SDG Affairs Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed, ERD Additional Secretary Uttam Kumar Karmakar, Foreign Ministry Director General Kazi Russell Parvez and German Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Jan Janowski were present.
