Jumbangla Desk: A young man was killed in a gang thrashing at Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University (DU) on suspicion of being a thief. The incident took place at Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall on Wednesday (September 18).

The name of the deceased youth is Tofazzal. His house is in Kathalatli Union of Patharghata, Barguna. Tofazzal was said to be mentally unstable.

It is learned that the students took Tofajjal to the guest room after he was arrested on suspicion of theft on Wednesday evening. There the students beat him repeatedly till 10 pm. At one stage, the young man was seated in the canteen and fed rice. It is said that he was beaten again.

When the house tutors of the hall went to the spot around 10 pm, some students took him to the Dhaka Medical College (DMH) hospital around 12 pm. Later, when the doctor declared him dead, the students left him there and left.

Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, such incidents cannot be accepted in the campus. Even if someone comes to steal, no one has the right to beat him to death. Attempts are being made to identify the culprits by looking at the CCTV footage of the incident. A case will be filed in the police station on behalf of the hall.
