Censor Board will be reconstituted as Film Certification Board: Adviser

Jumbangla Desk: Information and Broadcasting Ministry Adviser Nahid Islam said that the Censor Board will be reconstituted in 2023 according to the Bangladesh Film Certification Act.

He said this in response to a question from reporters after exchanging views with the newly elected committee members of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board and Joori Board in the conference room of the Secretariat on Wednesday (September 18).

Information advisor Nahid Islam said that the Film Censor Board and Joori Board have been formed from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Today there was a formal meeting with the two committees. We have discussed something about the sensor board. Bangladesh film certification law was gazetted in 2023, the rules of that gazette have not been prepared till now. The Censor Board which was formed in the past too was done under the 1963 Act. Since there were no gazette regulations. Following that, I created an emergency censor board for the business so that financial loss does not come in the world of emergency cinema.

He said, we can see that since a law has been gazetted in 2023, after reviewing it, we are dropping the word censor based on everyone's opinion. We will reorganize the certification board as per the Bangladesh Film Certification Act of 2023 by notification as soon as possible.

Nahid Islam said that the law that exists in 2023 is very flawed, it was discussed today. We will work to amend that law by discussing with various stakeholders. That proposal will be made. As there are many pending films, the certification board will be restructured to facilitate their speedy release. According to the Bangladesh Film Certification Act, a certification board will be made and a certification board will be notified as soon as possible, the Censor Board will be restructured.

When asked why it has to be changed, Nahid Islam said, those in our film industry have been speaking against censorship for a long time. Their is a type of visa but the certification act was thought of in the past. As per the new law, we will continue the work of film management.
