Jumbangla Desk: Shamim Ahmed aka 'Shooter Shamim' died while undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Hospital in Savar after being beaten up by students of Jahangirnagar University (JAB).

Kamal Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar's Ashulia police station confirmed that he died around 12:00 pm on Wednesday.
Earlier, on the evening of July 15, students thrashed Shamim Ahmed aka Shamim Molla, the former leader of the branch Chhatra League, for his involvement in the shooting and attack on the quota agitating students at the residence of the Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JAB). He was called 'Shooter Shamim' by the locals as he had been torturing ordinary students and local residents by displaying firearms for a long time. He was in charge of 39 batch students of the university and the former organizing secretary of Jabi Chhatra League.
According to the students, Shamim was involved in various criminal activities including drug syndicate control, land grabbing and extortion in the university and its surrounding areas while he was the organizing secretary of the Jewel-Chanchal Committee of the Chhatra League. Apart from this, there are several cases against him. On the night of July 15, he took the lead from the front line in the attack on the quota agitating students.
According to eyewitness sources, Shamim Molla was staying in a shop near the peripheral gate of the university on Wednesday evening. A group of university students got information about his location and went there and arrested him and beat him up. Later on getting the news, Shamim Molla was rescued from the scene in an injured condition by the security personnel of the university and taken to the security wing. After that, the excited students beat him repeatedly. At one stage, at around 9:15 PM, a team of Ashulia Thana Police came to Jabir's security wing and took Shamim Molla into custody in the presence of the University's Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
Meanwhile, Shamim was interrogated by the police and proctorial team about the attack on the Vice-Chancellor's residence on the night of July 15, and he admitted to leading the attack. Shamim said Mehdi Iqbal, teacher of Geography and Environment Department of Jabir, also participated with the attackers.
Shamim Molla also said that on the night of July 15, he was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall by Tarek and Mizan (former Chhatra League leader) to attack the students from Battala area of the university. There, under the leadership of Aktaruzzaman Sohel, president of the branch Chhatra League, petrol bombs, cocktails, indigenous weapons and firearms were prepared. During the attack, Tarek fired one round, said Shamim.

When asked about the general situation, Kamal Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar's Ashulia Police Station said that Shamim died some time ago while undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Hospital. Details will be given later. No statement from the university authorities was received in this regard
