Students will not accept the appointment of dictator's friend as VC

Own Correspondent, Gazipur: Students protested in Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) demanding the appointment of Vice-Chancellor. On Wednesday (September 18) at around 11 pm, they marched from Bakultala premises of the campus and exited through the 2nd gate of the campus and ended at the main gate of the campus via Shibbari-Shimultali road.

Students said that most of the universities in the country have appointed vice-chancellors, but no permanent VC has been appointed in Duet. They staged a protest demanding the appointment of the VC as soon as possible.

During the protest march, the students raised slogans like 'Buet-Quet VC got, duet ken bad gelo', 'Dabi moder ektei, duet VC chai' etc.

Mohammad Amanullah, a student of mechanical engineering department at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), said that VC should be appointed in DUET as soon as other universities. VC should be appointed from among the teachers of Duet. Duet students will not accept any dictator's friend as VC. A VC appointed from outside Duet will be declared undesirable in the campus.

Duet third-year student Arman Chowdhury and fourth-year student Farhad Reza, Al Nahian, said the program will come if it takes a long time to appoint the VC. They demanded appointment of VC from among duet teachers.

It should be noted that the Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Academic, Administrative and Financial Affairs. Arefin Kawsar has been serving as Vice-Chancellor since September 1.
