Forget the differences and give responsibility to those who are qualified

Sipan Ahmed: Energy sector is one of the most important sectors of the country. Gas, electricity and fuel oil are included in this sector. All three are essential in daily life. Therefore, skilled, qualified and experienced people are required to manage this sector.

Recently Titus Gas Management Board was formed. Human Land Secretary Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury was appointed as director there. But Human Land Secretary Titus Gas has withdrawn himself from the post of Managing Director. When the name of As-Sunnah Foundation Chairman Sheikh Ahmadullah (Hafizullah) was proposed as a member of the Advisory Council of the Interim Government, he rejected it.

There is no precedent in Bangladesh to withdraw from an important post without accepting it. In 2007, as the chief advisor of the caretaker government on January 11, Dr. When the offer was made to Muhammad Yunus, he also turned it down. In an interview given to BBC Bangla, he said about this, I was not greedy for power. If I had wanted, I could have been the head of the caretaker government. I was offered, but I turned it down.

Back to the main point. Gas sector is an important sector of Bangladesh. Currently, the daily gas demand is 2000 million cubic feet. But the country has a daily gas capacity of 1,400 million cubic feet. Recently a gas field was discovered in Bhola district. It is said that 5 million cubic feet of gas can be extracted from there.

New gas connection to residential has been stopped due to industrial plant. It is not possible to supply the required gas to the houses which have gas connection. Imported liquefied gas is being used in homes. The demand for gas is increasing day by day. New pipelines are being built as industrial plants are being built in the district. In this case, success or improvement is not possible without experts, qualified and experienced people.

While talking to several officials of Titas Gas Company, the topic of hiring experts in managing Titas Gas came up. As they said, Mahmudur Rahman was the first gas expert in the country. He was the Energy Advisor in the Eighth National Parliament. Also present are member secretary of the National Committee for Protection of Oil Gas Mineral Resources and Power Port Anu Muhammad and energy expert Professor M Shamsul Alam.

Those who are being appointed in various sectors including Titus Gas, should be seen whether they are experts, qualified and experienced in those sectors or not? Political identity is not important in these cases. For the sake of the country, people should be given the opportunity to work in important places by prioritizing the merit of the party and opinion. It should be remembered that skilled, qualified, experienced and expert people should play a role in state reform with due respect. Hopefully, the government will consider these issues before appointing anyone.
