In the next picture, the kneeling man in almost the same position is lying on the floor, with multiple deep gashes on both legs extending to the knees.

In another picture, a naked man wearing multiple amulets and garlands is standing in front of a plate full of rice, vegetables, fish, chicken and a large bowl of dal.

On the palm of the man's right hand in front of the man's wrist was something white, like ointment.

By now the people of Bangladesh know that the name of the man lying on the floor is Tofazzal Hossain.

This person is the top trend of Bangladesh on Facebook today.

Police told BBC that Tofazzal Hossain was detained for several hours in the guest room of Dhaka University's Fazlul Haque Hall on suspicion of being a thief and beaten to death.

The events of those few hours are now known to all.

Netizens' intense anger, frustration, regret and sarcastic reactions have been seen on Facebook since morning.

Dhaka University students have been seen condemning and angering many former and current students of the university.

It was accompanied by a barrage of questions and surprises - questions that no one answered.


A student named Sultana Mahzabeen Chaiti posted a painting modeled after Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' painting – titled 'The Last Supper at DU'.

In six hours it was shared more than 30 thousand times on Facebook.

In the painting, Tofazzal Hossain is seen eating at a table, on the back wall is written 'Age Chans Paye Paihan', where the words 'Chance Paye' are cut in two and 'Manush Haye' is written above in red ink.

Some are seeing similarities in this incident with the October 2019 murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad, who was beaten to death by BCL activists.

Adviser to Home Affairs Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has expressed 'sorrow' in this incident.

About 13 hours after the incident, Dhaka University authorities filed a murder case as plaintiff.

Dhaka University authorities handed over three students involved in the incident to the police by afternoon.

Meanwhile, whatever the discussion and reaction – till the time of writing this report, 17 hours after Tofajjal was declared dead, no relatives have come to collect his body from the mortuary.

Tofazzal Hossain (32) lost his life on Wednesday (September 18) night after being tortured by students in Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University on suspicion of being a thief. He was a resident of Charduani village of Kanthaltali union taluk of Patharghata upazila of Barguna. His father's name is (deceased) Abdur Rahman. Within a short time Tofajjal's mother, father and only elder brother died. Tofajjal family and guardian became empty and completely lost mental balance for last 3/4 years.
