The coordinators of the university came under fire from teachers, former and current students after a video of the swearing-in at a teachers' meeting went viral on social media on Thursday afternoon.

Palash Bakhtiar, co-coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said in a statement to the journalists, "Many of us made speeches remembering the July revolution during the exchange with the newly appointed vice-chancellor and the treasurer, and as a result, requested the sirs to pledge to uphold the spirit of the July revolution."

"Teachers are our respect, it was not our intention to disrespect teachers. We apologize to Sirs for this unintentional mistake. I have personally apologized to Sirs.'

The video that came out was a promise and a pledge by teachers and students to capture the spirit of the July Revolution, the statement said.

'This confusion is mainly due to our inability to present our purpose more beautifully and appropriately. I apologize for creating this unwanted situation.'
