This (Sunday) morning in the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, he made the announcement in the chairman's speech at the meeting of the 'National Tax Force' Committee regarding the timing of the closure of hilsa harvesting during the main breeding season and the 'Ma Hilsa Conservation Campaign, 2024' for the development of hilsa resources in order to increase the production of hilsa.


The advisor said, Hilsa is a gift of our nature. We need to understand the nature and extract the hilsa. Those whose livelihoods are involved in hilsa extraction should be given importance.

He also said that Hilsa fish of Bangladesh has been recognized as a Geographical Indication or GI product. As a result, Hilsa is recognized all over the world as Bangladesh's own product. Our hilsa especially Padma hilsa is known as one of the tastiest fish in the world. We need to save Hilsa fish. Because I want to ensure the hilsa fish in the food menu of the people of the country.


The advisor gave instructions for strict monitoring of the concerned parties such as Navy, Coast Guard so that Hilsa cannot go illegally to any other country or any neighboring ship or trawler can enter the border of our country to extract it.


In response to a question, the adviser said that no action can be taken which causes loss to the country. The government will take strict action if the price of hilsa increases unreasonably in the market.


Calling for the campaign to stop hilsa harvesting during the breeding season, he said that the public should be made aware by speeding up the campaign on radio, TV, print and online media. At the same time, the local administration along with the law enforcement agencies should strictly monitor the hilsa collection, storage and sale for a certain period. Give instructions to take up business.

 

On this occasion, the Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syed Mahmud Belal Haider along with senior officials of the Ministry, officials of the Directorate of Fisheries, District Commissioners, SPs, Deputy Director (Fisheries) of the divisional level, District Fisheries Officers were present.
