Tariq Rahman acquitted in Digital Security Act case

Jumbangla Desk: Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman has been acquitted from the Digital Security Act case of Shahbag Police Station for declaring Ziaur Rahman as 'Father of the Nation'.

On Sunday (September 22), Dhaka's cyber tribunal judge Noor Alam's court dismissed the charge sheet issued by the DB police in the case and ordered his release.
Assistant bench of the concerned court, Jewel Mia, confirmed this information.
On July 29, the state party applied for a re-investigation of the case. Today was the day of order in this regard. However, the court did not take the charge sheet into consideration and ordered his release.
On February 25, 2021, the case was filed by Dr. Ziaur Rahman in Shahbag police station of the capital on the charge of declaring former president Ziaur Rahman as the 'father of Bangladeshi nationalism'. Muhammad Shahidullah is the deputy relief and disaster management secretary of the Chhatra League Zahidul Islam.
On December 2 last year, Sub-Inspector Hasanuzzaman of DB Police (Cyber and Special Crime), the investigating officer of the case filed a supplementary charge sheet against Tarek Rahman in the court.
It is said in the complaint of the case, Tarek Rahman said at one stage of his speech at a staff meeting organized in London on the 41st founding anniversary of BNP, "Those who are present in this meeting today, can we decide on the founding anniversary of our leader Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman of Bangladeshi nationalism through cameras and technology? Father? Our leader Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman is not only the Bengali nation, but all the nations living in 55 thousand 126 square miles including Bengalis, who carry the identity of the Bangladeshi nation, who identify themselves as Bangladeshis, the father of the nation, the father of Bangladeshi nationalism. Can we take this proposal together today? So it has been decided from today that martyred President Ziaur Rahman is the father of Bangladeshi nationalism.

The complaint also mentions that Tariq Rahman in the staff meeting made bizarre arguments containing fabricated false information with the intention of destabilizing the ongoing stable situation in Bangladesh. He has tried to distort history by spreading misleading information about the father of the nation.
