Incidentally, the Dhaka University student was raped on the side of a deserted road in Kurmitola after getting off the bus of Dhaka University on January 5, 2020. The next day, his father filed a case at the Cantonment police station. When the news of the rape spread, there were protests in different parts of the country, including Dhaka University, demanding the arrest and trial of the rapist. Later, there was a movement against rape and violence against women across the country and the highest punishment for rapists was the death penalty. RAB arrested Majnu (30) three days after the incident of rape of that student. Majnu's photo was sent to the student who identified her as the rape victim. After the investigation, on March 16 of that year, the police filed a charge sheet in the court accusing only Majnu. At the end of the judicial proceedings, on November 19 of that year, the judge of the Seventh Women and Children Torture Suppression Tribunal of Dhaka was removed. In this case discussed by Kamrunnahar. Majnu was sentenced to life imprisonment. Source: DMP News
