On Sunday (September 22), the workers of a garment factory called HDF Apparels staged a protest at the Jaina Bazar bus stand in Abdar village of the upazila from 2 pm. Workers remained on the road till 5 pm (as of writing this report).

The women workers of HDF Apparels factory complained that they were owed their salary for the month of August. But the factory authorities are not paying the salary. Salary is due on 7th. But today the 22nd still did not pay the salary.

The factory worker Lima Akhter said, 'The house owner pressures for rent before the salary date ends. And Mudidokani to pay the rest. The owner of the house and the shopkeeper asked to leave the house with excuses. Due to minor difficulties did not come to the road. You cannot live in such a sun. But how are your hours? Stomach no longer understands pain.'

Factory worker Sohail said, 'After 7th, they have given 10th date for payment of outstanding salary. But did not pay. Today the wall is blocked, that's why I came to the street. We know thousands of passengers are suffering. But our suffering is not less. I do duty so hard, and at the end of the month I have to go back and forth for salary.'

Pins Mahmood, human resource department officer of HDF Apparels factory, said, 'We pay the workers' salaries regularly. But this month I could not pay the salary due to some financial problems of the owner. When the arrears for the month of August were told to be paid on the 24th of this month, the workers took to the highway.'

Deputy Inspector (SI) of Sreepur police station Aminul Islam said that the police station and industrial police reached the spot after receiving the information and are having discussions with the workers. Efforts are being made to convince the workers to remove them from the highway.
