Jumbangla Desk: The government has taken an initiative to train 32,000 farmers on climate change adaptation strategies by selecting 800 farmer groups in 9 upazilas of five districts of the country.

This information was given at a National Validation workshop held at Tula Bhaban in Khamarbari of the capital on Sunday (September 22).

The day-long workshop on 'Vulnerability Risk Assessment' was held under the DAE part of the 'Building Climate Resilient Livelihoods in Vulnerable Landscapes in Bangladesh (BCRL)' project. The chief guest was Director General of Agriculture Extension Department. Tajul Islam Patwari.

It was informed at the workshop that the project is being implemented under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funding with technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Affairs. The project will be completed in June 2028 at a total cost of Tk 66 crore. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has allocated Tk 56 crore and the remaining Tk 10 crore for Department of Environment.


In the workshop, it was informed that farmers will be trained on climate change adaptation strategies in Rajshahi's Godagari, Chapainbaganj's Nachol and Bholahat, Khulna's Dumuria, Batiaghata and Paikgacha, Rangamati's Kaukhali, Khagrachari's Manikchari and Sadar upazilas and will be provided with necessary agricultural materials through assessment. Entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs will be created. Market linkages, value chain mapping will be done to ensure fair price of agricultural produce.
