11 Bangladeshis arrested in India's Tripura for illegal entry

International Desk: 11 Bangladeshis including 3 Indian brokers have been arrested from Agartala railway station premises in Tripura state of India.

They were detained on Saturday (September 21) evening from Agartala's Badharghat main railway station on their way to a southern Indian state. All those detained are citizens of three hill districts of Bangladesh including Khagrachari district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of GRP Police Station Tapas Das said that all of them had entered the Indian state of Tripura illegally from Bangladesh. They were trying to cross over to the outer states by rail.

He also said that there are 7 men and 4 women among those arrested. The detained Bangladeshis are Rubel, Kamrul Hossain, Muhammad Sayem, Kashem, Muhammad Ayub Ali, Sohag Mia, Muhammad Kamal Uddin, Manwara Begum, Sapna Khatun, Jvi Begum and Praveen Begum.

Besides, three Indian brokers were arrested with them. One of them is Prasenjit Sarkar of Assam, his home is in Silchar. The other two are Niamat Hussain and Pintu Mia from Tripura state. The three have been accused of helping Bangladeshis enter Tripura through illegal means.

OC Tapas Das said, on the other hand, 11 detained Bangladeshis have been charged with illegal entry. Those arrested were taken to court on Sunday. A 14-day remand has been applied for each of them.
