Jumbangla Desk: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will meet with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. The meeting is an example of the growing relationship between the two countries.

Confirming the meeting in New York, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told UNB that the meeting is going to be held between only two people.


The official also said that this is very significant because no US president has held a bilateral meeting with any head of government of Bangladesh in the last few decades.

Biden will visit New York to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 23-25.


Regarding President Biden's visit to New York, Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said that in addition to addressing the General Assembly on September 24, President Biden will meet with world leaders to discuss cooperation to combat threats to international peace and security, advance global prosperity and protect human rights.


Chief Adviser Professor Yunus will arrive in New York on Monday night (local time) to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Here's his meeting with world leaders on the sidelines.

Ambassador Abdul Muhit, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations and CDA Salahuddin Mahmud of the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington will receive the Chief Adviser at the airport at 2:30 pm local time.


The Chief Adviser will address the General Session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 27.

Yunus described the challenges of the interim government to the US delegation in Dhaka recently. He said his administration had taken swift action to 'recover, reform and restart' the economy, reforming institutions such as the financial sector, the judiciary and the police.


He said these things when the high-level delegation of the United States met the Chief Minister at the State Guest House Yamuna.

The US delegation reiterated its commitment to inclusive economic growth, institution building and development for the welfare of the people of Bangladesh.


As Bangladesh seeks to outline a more just and inclusive future, the United States stands ready to assist in these efforts, the embassy said.


Yunus will hold several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

According to Tauhid Hussain, the chief adviser will meet with leaders including the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Pakistan and Nepal, the European Union President, the US Secretary of State, the UN Secretary General, the UN Human Rights Chief, the World Bank President and the USAID Administrator.


The foreign adviser said that many decisions of the meeting were taken at the last minute. New meetings may be added to that consideration; Again, due to lack of time, a meeting may be missed.

He said that he can also meet with the President of Italy and the Prince of Kuwait.


On September 24, Yunus will attend a reception hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Chief Adviser.

There will attend the opening session of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Foreign Affairs Adviser Tauhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, SDG Chief Coordinator Lamia Morshed, Foreign Secretary Riaz Hamidullah will accompany the Chief Adviser.


The Chief Adviser will also attend a high profile side event called 'Meet the Friends of Bangladesh'.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's membership in the United Nations, a reception was organized by Muhammad Yunus.


On the sidelines of the visit, he will hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, the foreign adviser said.- UNB
