Jumbangla Desk: In Chittagong, a young man was beaten to death and his body thrown away in a group 'singing and cheering'.

The youth was tied to a pole under gate number two Akhtaruzzaman flyover under the city's Panchlaish police station and beaten by singing the song 'Madhu hoi hoi anre bish khawaila, kaan kapane lovela dam na dila'.

Although this incident took place on the night of August 13, yesterday (Saturday) when the video of the beating of the young man went viral, riots started all over the country including Chittagong. The unfortunate young man's name is Shahadat Hossain. He is the son of deceased Mohammad Haroon of Nadna village of Panchbaria union of Sonaimuri police station of Noakhali. Lived in boiler colony of BRTC area under Kotwali police station of the city. Worked in a shop in Falmondi located on Station Road.

The day after the incident, he was identified after the body was recovered from Pravartak Mor, a few kilometers away from the incident site on August 14. Shahadat's uncle Mohammad Harun filed a case at Panchlaish police station as the plaintiff in this incident.

After watching the 20-second video of him being tied to a pole and singing and brutally beaten to death, wife Sharmin Akhtar said it was the scene of her husband being killed.

It is mentioned in the statement of the case that on August 13, around two o'clock in the afternoon, Shahadat left home and went to work. Around seven in the evening, Shahadat talked to his wife Sharmin on the mobile phone. Then he told his wife that he would return home in a while. But he did not return home till midnight. His wife and family members became worried. At that time, his mobile phone was also found switched off. On August 14, at around 9:30 pm, the victim's uncle Harun found out through Facebook that the body of his nephew Shahadat Hossain was lying on the side of the road opposite the Badna Shah Mia (R.H.) shrine near Pravartak Mor. He recovered the body that night with the help of the police. Later, the body was sent to the morgue. After the autopsy, the body was buried.

Although a case has been filed in this incident, unknown persons have been accused. However, the statement did not mention anything about the reason why he was killed.

His wife Sharmin Akhtar went to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in the presence of the police and identified Shahadat's body that night.

Mohammad Solaiman, the officer in charge of Panchlaish police station, said that the victim of the attack seems familiar after seeing the video on Facebook of him being beaten with two hands tied with an iron. The shirt worn by the dead body on August 14 was found to match that of the victim of the attack. Later, the wife of the deceased was called by the police. He came to the police station and identified the person who was being beaten as none other than her husband Shahadat Hossain.

In the video, it can be seen that a few youths are beating Shahadat while celebrating and cheering by singing the song 'Madhu hoi hoi anre bish khawaila, kon kapane lovela dam na dila'. The incident took place under gate number two Akhtaruzzaman flyover under Panchlaish police station of the city.
