The mega auction of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) (IPL 2025 Auction) may be held in November. However, the organizers have not officially announced the final date yet. Moreover, before this auction, the league authorities are discussing about changes in several rules. It is also not clear how many cricketers the teams will be able to retain.

Mustafiz

With the mega auction, the parties are planning to organize themselves. Chennai Super Kings authorities have finalized the list of cricketers who will be retained before the auction. Such is the demand of the Indian media.

The franchises have advised the BCCI on the retention of the cricketers. A franchisee wants to retain two people. Eight people should be allowed to claim a franchise. BCCI will take the final decision. The parties have to accept that. Without waiting for the board's decision, all the franchisees made their own lists. CSK authorities are not behind.

According to Indian media sources in the country's board, the franchises may get an opportunity to retain five or six cricketers. Chennai has made a list of such cricketers. An all-India media report claimed that captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's name was first on the list. The next three names are Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dubey and Lankan pacer Mathisha Pathirana. That is, if BCCI allows the retention of four cricketers, the CSK authorities may face a problem. Because Mahendra Singh Dhoni was not in the first four in their list of choices.

However, the most successful captain of the team does not want to keep the Chennai authorities? That is not the case. Dhoni is yet to decide whether to play in the next IPL. He will communicate the decision to the franchisee within a certain period. It is not sure how many days Dhoni will play. So Dhoni is placed at number five in the list. If necessary, he will be retained prior to the auction using the 'right to match' rule. The Chennai authorities want to ensure that if Dhoni wants to play, he enters the field wearing the yellow jersey. Chennai authorities hope that Dhoni will play at least one more year of IPL.

Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Darrell Mitchell were not included in the Chennai list. Even the name of Tiger pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who joined the team in the last season, was not heard. However, the Chennai authorities can increase the list if BCCI gives the opportunity to retain more players.
