But within four months of that marriage, the actor was arrested in a case filed by his wife Varsha Chowdhury for marital discord and torture for demanding dowry of Tk 65 lakh.

Thinking about the future happiness after marriage, I gave about 5 lakhs cash to the defendant at various times. But instead of being happy with this, the greed of the defendant increased and he often demanded 65 lakh rupees from me as dowry saying that he would make new movies.

He also threatened me that he would marry the defendant again if he did not pay the dowry. And when I expressed my inability to do so, I was often tortured physically and mentally for dowry. I continued to endure his torture in the hope of future happiness. But in this situation last Thursday around 9 pm the defendant demanded 65 lakh taka from me for dowry. When I expressed my disobedience, he beat me and injured me in different parts of my body. In this situation, people around me came forward and took me to Mugda Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Incidentally, Russell Mia played the dual role of hero and director in the movie 'Vaiyare'. At that time, he was widely criticized for claiming 'paap mukt' in the promotion of the movie. Russell Mia claimed that the movie can be watched with ablution and that ablution will not be broken after watching the movie.
