Jumbangla Desk: The price of onion has decreased by 2-3 rupees in the wholesale market due to the arrival of Indian onion in the market. However, the retail market has not been affected. Selling at previous price.

On Monday (September 23), this picture was seen by visiting the onion stalls in the capital's Caravan Bazaar.

India has withdrawn the minimum duty imposed on onion exports to control the domestic market. As a result of this decision, there is no longer the condition of payment of fixed price in the case of onion import. At the same time, the export duty has also been reduced. The country's foreign trade department has issued a notification in this regard on September 13.

According to a report of Semsoy Economic Times, the minimum price of onion will be implemented soon. As a result of fixing this price, the countries which import onion from India including Bangladesh will get a lot of benefits. The country has reduced the export duty from 40 percent to 20 percent. The country's government has also withdrawn the condition of the minimum price of $550 per ton of onion exports.

Meanwhile, Indian onions have started coming to the country's market after the withdrawal of this tariff in India. Due to which the price has started to decrease in the wholesale market. At present, Indian onion is selling at Tk 102-104 per kg, Pakistani onion at Tk 90-92 and desi onion is selling at Tk 102-105 per kg at the wholesale level.

Wholesalers and traders say that Indian onion is increasing in the market. It reduces the pressure on other onions. As a result, wholesale prices have started to fall.

However, despite the decrease in wholesale, it did not have much impact on the retail market. In a handful of shops, the price has been reduced by up to 5 rupees, but most of the shops are still selling at the previous increased price.

In the market, desi onion is being retailed at Tk 110-120 per kg depending on the variety. Apart from this, Pakistani onion costs 95-100 taka and Indian onion costs up to 100-110 taka.

Buyers say that when India stopped exporting onions, the prices in the country's market went up without the announcement. However, if you export, the price does not decrease easily. A buyer named Nafis said that even though there are enough onions in the market, the price has not decreased at all. This is nothing but manipulation by traders.

And the retail traders claim that Indian onion has just started coming to the market. But there is not much demand. People are more inclined towards desi onion. So the price has not been affected much yet. But the price will decrease in the future.
