On Monday (August 23), the market has seen that the price has increased from 8 to 16 thousand taka per maund depending on the size of hilsa export to India.

A 22-day ban on hilsa fishing will begin from October 13 ahead of the breeding season. The hilsa season will end soon after the ban. Then an eight-month ban on catching jatka will be given again.

Barisal, Barguna's Patharghata and Patuakhali big hilsa market traders say that the price of hilsa has increased by Tk 200 to Tk 400 per kg in the wholesale market due to the high price of hilsa being exported to India.

In a letter signed by Sultana Akhtar, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry, it is said that an order has been given to export 3000 tons of hilsa from Bangladesh.
