Announcement of formation of media reform commission within next week

Jumbangla Desk: Information and Broadcasting Adviser. Nahid Islam said today that the interim government is hopeful of announcing the formation of the Media Reform Commission within the next week.

He said, I am hopeful that I will be able to announce the formation of the Media Reform Commission within the next week. The announcement is expected to come after the chief adviser returns home after attending the UN General Assembly session in New York.

The adviser said this at an exchange meeting with publishers, editors and other stakeholders of various newspapers organized by the Department of Film and Publication (DFP) at the Information Building.

DFP Director General Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin chaired the meeting as a special guest, Additional Information Secretary (Acting) Md. Nazrul Islam.

Nahid said, everyone wants freedom of media. However, I would like to ask a question… Are there any limits to the freedom of the press? We want to secure all freedoms by prioritizing the interests of the country and the popular uprising of the students.
The adviser thanked the newspaper publishers, editors and journalists for accurately portraying the events during the July uprising.

He said that during the student uprising, the people of the country became dependent on newspapers to get real information. So I would like to express my sincere thanks to them. However, some newspapers were in favor of the fascist government. Those who played an inciting role in the July coup must be brought to justice.

Regarding the outstanding bills of newspapers, Nahid said, the government is trying to digitize the bill payment system to provide hassle-free service.
